Glycopyrronium Bromide (oral)
- Status:
- Grey - after consultant/specialist initiation
- Decision Date:
- March 2017
Comments
GREY after consultant/specialist initiation: for hypersalivation (sialorrhoea) or drooling after a trial or consideration of hyoscine (oral and patches).
- For children: Sialanar brand oral solution is the preferred product for hypersalivation in children with chronic neurological conditions (licenced for children and adolescents aged 3 years and over). For short term intermittent use, but may be continued for long term use after assessment from the specialist. See SPC for dosing
NB Glycopyrronium bromide oral solutions are not interchangeable on a microgram-for-microgram basis due to differences in bioavailability. Sialanar oral solution has approximately 25% higher bioavailability and therefore equivalent doses will be lower than for tablets and generic oral solutions. Sialanar oral solution contains 400 micrograms/mL of glycopyrronium bromide which is equivalent to 320 micrograms/mL of glycopyrronium
- For adults: Assicco is the preferred cost effective brand for tablets or 1mg/5ml oral solution sugar free. Both off-label in adults (Decision date August 2026)
